●Project overview

Hello. I'm Yuichiro Nakamura, an artist.

My friend, Kanazawa artist Miri Moriyama, has been exhibiting small works in small boxes since 2024, and I've been participating in the project several times with my works. The small art exhibition is about viewing smaller works than usual, and it's not like the art world that emphasizes spectacle, but rather it's possible to get closer to the works and see them in a more personal way, which I personally thought was an interesting project.

Now, I thought I could do something as my own answer to that, and since I've already done it in a small box, it's not a contrarian move, but I thought it would be interesting to exhibit small works the size of a capsule toy in a venue that is much larger than the size of a normal white cube (in other words, a venue that transcends the boundaries of space). It's called a big art exhibition.

The exhibition locations will not only be art spaces, but also cafes, bookstores, izakayas, bars, guesthouses, and other semi-public store-like locations where the addresses can be made public. I think it would be interesting to have about 100 of them scattered around Japan and outside of Japan.

I myself have traveled around Japan since 2019, and there are many places that I would be happy to cooperate with.

The flyer will include the addresses of all the exhibition venues.

● About participating in the project

If you would like to participate in the project, you will need to prepare a place to install a work of art (approximately 4 x 4 cm or less) that fits into a small capsule of a gachapon machine, such as a counter, next to the cash register, a bookshelf, a shelf, or a table. We will prepare the work.

We will also create a flyer, so we would appreciate your cooperation in installing it.

● Hikaru Otoi

A sculptor (another name for Nakamura Yuichiro). He regards the space of a gachapon machine capsule as a sculptural space and creates various assemblage-like sculptures that fit into that size. From 2019 to 2020, he provided his works as prizes for artist Yuichiro Nakamura's project "Gachamuraya II". In 2023, he donated over 200 works to artist Katsuhiro Kubo as a cash prize for the Punoskane Punu exhibition, a public exhibition themed on the gift economy. His main exhibitions include "Make a Laptop into a Rice Ball and Throw It Away" at Sansakizaka Cafe (Tokyo) in 2024.
